Heaven's Above!

Last night I visited, with my Venturer Unit, a place north of Rockhampton called Heavens Above. Heavens Above is run by an couple who obviously have a passion for astronomy, and put on a show most nights which involves a DVD regarding the birth of the universe, as well as a brief history of the universe, several galaxies and also our own solar system. The DVD was great, but the real fun is when they fire up the telescopes and show off some of our celestial neighbours.

We saw Alpha Centauri, a cluster of stars they referred to as the Jewellry Box, the largest star we've found so far, as well as Jupiter plus four of it's moons. We also mananged to catch a glimpse of a comet passing through our part of the solar system, as well as seeing a few meteors with our naked eyes.

Overall the show was great, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Make sure you put it on the list of things to do when you come and visit us....
