Time for some more mini-reviews, this time a combination of Music, a book and a couple of movies for you:
System of a Down - Hypnotize
I've been making SOAD bashing a bit of a sport here on Conspiracies for a while now, and I'm somewhat happy to say that their new CD is better than their last one. I can't explain why, since on the surface of things they seem very similar, but it just is. The guitar player still sings to much though....
The Arcade Fire - Who Cares what the fuck it's called.
I thought now that I have an iPod, I should start downloading a bit more music, and in an attempt to further my horizons I downloaded the Arcade Fires latest CD. I shouldn't have bothered. I'd recommend you don't bother either, as this CD was the most boring thing I've listened to for years. David Bowie, what the hell were you thinking collaborating with these guys?
Powersat - Ben Bova
Ben Bova is one of my favorite Sci-Fi authors, and as usual Powersat delivers. It's an exiting story about a mans dream to help the US towards power independance with the help of his power collecting satellite. The usual terrorists and oil barons attempt to get in his way. Get down to the Yeppoon Library and borrow this now!
Crash
Jo really wanted to see this movie on the weekend, so we grabbed it on DVD and watched it yesterday. Unless you really really like watching patronising racial dramas, the I wouldn't really recommend hiring this movie. The performances are sub-par, and the story all too predictable.
Batman Begins
I was ready for a little light hearted entertainment, but was pretty surprised to find that this movie was great. We get to learn about Bruce Wayne's past, his life as a ninja and a couple of new baddies come into play. Well acted, great story, and good action. Hopefully they'll make a part 2 with a new Joker....
Oasis - Don't Believe the Truth
I've always had a soft spot for Oasis, but the last few CD's have been a little boring. It's good to see them back with a bit more fire on this CD though, if you're a fan of their older stuff, but felt disillusioned by their recent CD's, then check this out, you won't be disappointed.
