This review is the first, in hopefully what will be a series of book reviews. I plan to write a brief review of each book that I read, and seeing as I finished Enders Shadow by Orson Scott Card last night, here's the first.
Enders Shadow is a companion novel to the classic Enders Game, and is about a young boy named Bean, who is pulled off the streets of Rotterdam and sent to a space academy for gifted students.
The book is well written, and suitable for young teenagers and above. Parents may be happy to hear the book doesn't contain and sex scenes or graphic violence. I found it to be an exciting story, which, while starting a little slowly, was hard to put down towards the end.
Personally I found Bean to be a very likeable character, and very much enjoyed reading about the devious ways he would infiltrate the Battle School.
Orson Scott Card fans, and fans of the Ender series will thorought enjoy this book, though I would encourage readers to at least read Enders Game before reading this, as one of the real joys of Enders Game is discovering the various plot twists, all of which are revealed in Shadow.
Overall, I'd rate the book 8/10
