The other day I managed to get ahold of the latest CD by the recently reformed Helmet, Size Matters.
It appears that Helmet are pretty much a Page Hamilton + Guests group these days, though Page pretty much did all of the songwriting in the past. Out of the group are John Stanier and Henry Bogdan, and in come some guys from White Zombie and other places.
The album itself is both good and bad. About half of the tracks are great, and remind me what I love about Helmet, but there also seems to be alot of filler tracks on the CD as well. Page Hamilton seems to have take a few pointers from the Foo Fighters in a few of the songs, as some of them tend to 'rock' more than previous Helmet pieces.
Page also has attempted to add more melody to their tracks, and seems to sing alot more, even more than on the Aftertaste CD. Personally I'm not a big fan of this but whatever floats your boat I suppose....
When he does open the throttle and scream, it sounds great, and everything is forgiven again.
All in all, not a bad CD, even if it has only 4-5 tracks worth listening to.
I rate it 732,934 out of 1,000,000.
Thanks for listening.
