I spent last weekend out in the forests of Byfield with a Scout Troop that I am a assistant leader for. The weekend was great, we went for a couple of walks, had a campfire, etc.
For some reason, discussion turned to conspiracies and other theories regarding the future and the possible end of the world. Ive decided that this week I'll cover each of the conspiracies/theories with you.
The first one we talked about, since the guys and girls there seemed to have a fascination with the end of the world, was the end of the Mayan calendar on December 23, 2012.
The Mayans were a Central American civilisation, which dissappeared sometime before the discovery on the Americans during the 1400's. They were very advanced, especially in the fields of mathematics and astronomy. The calendars they created using their knowledge in these areas are so precise, that they have accurately predicted the alignment of planets and moons, to a level that was far superior to other civilisations at the time.
There is some speculation that this final date, 23/12/2012, is the end of the world, and that the Mayan's may have predicted some world ending event, such as a comet or meteor strike, or some sort of galactic alignment induced cataclysm.
Who knows? But I think I'll be having Xmas ealry that year!
